2 new industry panels at Bengal Global Business Summit next year
Two new sector committees have been included in the upcoming Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS) to be held in February 2023.
This was decided at a preparatory meeting held today by senior officials from industry and trade, animal resources development, tourism and related ministries.
A new committee has been formed for the creative industry and cinema and another for innovation and knowledge.
It can be mentioned that during the inauguration of the 27th Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) in April, the CM had requested Secretary of State HK Dwivedi to include the film sector in the BGBS from next year. . “It was an oversight on our part not to include the film industry in this year’s very successful BGBS. We need to market our entertainment business globally. The sector creates job opportunities for many people,” Ms. Banerjee said.
Sector sessions aim to explore business opportunities in targeted sectors. These committees will review the situation monthly and then make recommendations for the formation of industrial policy.
Current sectoral sessions are infrastructure, services, tourism, industries, agricultural and related activities, international trade and mining, oil and gas. The state has formed industry committees with government and industry representatives for different departments and industry members contribute to the ease of doing business.
According to a senior official, who attended the preparatory meeting, the focus will be on industry and international trade. Associations of power plants, steel mills, textiles, plastics, power looms and others attended the meeting and were asked to make suggestions for preparing industry policy.
At the closing session of this year’s BGBS, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said the state had received investment proposals to the tune of Rs 3.42 lakh crore, which was the highest among the six such summits organized by the state government so far.
